Journalist Jose Ramon de la Morena has revealed that Diego Costa had a heated argument with Diego Simeone’s assistant, Nelson Vivas, before asking Atletio Madrid to terminate his contract with the club.
Los Rojiblancos and Costa parted ways after the 32-year-old striker asked to be released by the club for personal reasons.
“Diego Costa was in a very uncomfortable situation with the club before the start of the season,” De la Morena told El Transistor.
“This is not something that has come out now, but it has become more and more tense.

“Simeone has tried to help him. Luis Suarez arrives and Simeone puts Diego Costa, who rotates with Luis Suarez in the first matches.
“But Diego Costa‘s attitude became more and more indolent and he became more than a player – a toxic character for that dressing room – and that scared the club more and more.
“The club negotiated his departure with him, and he asked to get his entire contract to leave.
“The relationship with the coach in training was already unbearable and with Nelson Vivas, Simeone‘s assistant, even worse.
“Because after coming from San Sebastian [where Atleti had beaten Real Sociedad 2-0], he almost came to blows with Nelson Vivas.”
De la Morena went on to reveal why Diego Costa skipped training before terminating his contract with the club.
“Diego Costa talks to the club’s sporting director [Andrea Berta] after coming from San Sebastian and tells him that he has a family problem and that he wants to go to Brazil, because his family has gone to Brazil,” De la Morena continued.
“[Berta] tells him to leave, but [tells him] that he cannot to go to any Champions League or LaLiga Santander team without paying a 20 million euro clause. [Costa] says no.
“Everything became tense and Diego Costa stopped going to train.
“Diego Costa is leaving and Atletico escape a problem, but now they need a striker.”
