'The alleged transfer fee never existed in reality': Dortmund CEO denies €120m demand for Jadon Sancho - logo
  • Sancho’s transfer to United did not go through because of Dortmund’s exorbitant price tag.
  • Now, however, their CEO claims that the fee was just mentioned by the media.
  • Watzke also suggests that Dortmund were unwilling to accept instalments.

In response to Jadon Sancho’s failed move in the summer, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Kicker:

“The alleged transfer fee often mentioned in the media never existed in reality.
“And if you get a signal at some point that a large part of the amount offered will only be paid in a few years, it will finally be a pure theoretical discussion.”

We wonder if Sancho’s solitary goal in 12 Bundesliga appearances has now caused Watzke to make all sorts of public statements? First, he hinted that the 20-year-old’s dip in form could be because of the failed summer move to Manchester United – and now, this.

Perhaps Watzke has just woken up from a long slumber (we don’t blame him, 2020 was pretty f***ed up), but everyone is aware of the massive €120m valuation they refused to budge from.
Watzke’s comment about receiving the payment ‘in a few years’ is also false – United had offered a deal that would be split in instalments but, of course, Dortmund turned that down as well.
