Timothy Fosu-Mensah set to join Bayer Leverkusen in £1.5m transfer after rejecting new Manchester United deal
The Dutchman has started just two matches so far this term but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been keen to extend the defender’s contract, which expires at the end of the season.
However, the former Ajax ace is concerned about a lack of playing time at Old Trafford and he turned down United’s last proposal.
That left United with a decision to make on Fosu-Mensah’s future and the club have decided to cash in now while they can.
Former club Ajax showed interest in the Dutchman but the Manchester Evening News claim the defender has opted to join German club Leverkusen.

Despite his ambition to return to Ajax, Leverkusen are willing to put up £1.5m for Fosu-Mensah and meet the defender’s wage demands. Solskjaer is a fan of Fosu-Mensah but United are well stocked in defence and the Norwegian confirmed last week that the Dutchman was likely to leave.
‘I’m not sure if he will stay or if he’s going to take an option now,’ Solskjaer said. ‘He’s not played enough, so of course he’s been allowed to speak to clubs with a view to leaving now in January.’ ‘It’s difficult when you have good players, talented players, and you can’t give them game-time.
He’s now at the stage where he needs to go and play again. ‘It might be end of January or in the summer where he finds somewhere else, he’s working hard so he’s ready for a move for any club he feels ready for.’
