Chelsea FC are Contemplating Mbappe Approach as Clearlake Capital Facilitates Summer Sales

In the midst of a dynamic summer transfer window, Chelsea Football Club is leaving no stone unturned to build a formidable squad for the upcoming season.
As financial fair play (FFP) regulations dictate, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, the club’s owners, have been actively facilitating sales to create room for potential signings.

Already witnessing the departure of 13 players from last season’s squad, including some permanent deals and loan moves, Chelsea is eager to bolster their ranks. Mauricio Pochettino, the newly appointed manager, has expressed his desire to bring in new faces to complement the signings of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson.
Pochettino’s priority list includes a new centre-back and central midfielder, given the void left by Wesley Fofana’s unfortunate knee injury and the club’s interest in Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo. However, it seems Chelsea’s ambitions don’t stop there, as they are also eyeing reinforcements upfront.

According to RMC Sport journalist FabriceHawkins, Chelsea is contemplating making an audacious move for Paris Saint-Germain’s star forward, Kylian Mbappe. The 24-year-old French international had previously stated his intention to honor the final year of his PSG contract before departing on a free transfer.
However, PSG’s decision to put Mbappe up for sale has changed the landscape. The situation is further complicated by the financial challenges faced by other potential suitors. Despite Real Madrid’s long-standing interest, they may not be able to meet PSG’s demands this summer.
The financial firepower of most European clubs also appears insufficient to secure Mbappe’s services. Interestingly, a potential surprise contender emerges in the form of Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, who could be front-runners with a reported bid of €200m (£173.11m).

While Chelsea has not yet submitted an offer, internal discussions are underway to evaluate the feasibility of meeting PSG’s valuation. Although European football may not be on the table for the 2023-24 season, the presence of Pochettino as the new manager, who worked with Mbappe at PSG, could be a persuasive factor.
Furthermore, once additional sales are completed, Chelsea might be in a better position to satisfy the player’s wage demands. As the transfer window continues, the football world eagerly awaits the outcome of this potential mega-deal. Will Chelsea make a bold move for Kylian Mbappe, or will Al-Hilal secure the coveted forward? Only time will tell.
